Three Echoes from a Gathering - Part One
The Names You Can’t Remember and Why That Matters
This weekend was a big family reunion and the house filled with voices I hadn’t heard in months.
Cousins I grew up with, elders I barely see anymore. My mother, holding space like a quiet anchor.
There were shared meals and unscheduled conversations. The kind of weekend where time bends a little and everyone slows down without saying it.
Some had read the Scroll. Others were just curious.
“What is it you’ve been working on exactly?”
“Wait, you wrote a whole book?”
“I saw the title but… what’s it actually about?”
So we talked. Sometimes briefly - just a sentence or two before someone passed the wine.
Sometimes deeply - one-on-one in the kitchen, or walking side by side after dinner.
Not everyone agreed. Some didn’t get it. Some did… unexpectedly so.
But over and over, in different tones and angles, three core threads kept returning.
It was a quiet but intense moment of sharing and kind reconnection, I just enjoyed it.
So I didn’t pull these threads out right away. I let them simmer.
But as the house was emptying again, I realized that these were the reflections worth walking with.
So over the next three weeks, I’ll take them one by one.
Three quiet tensions. Three real-life questions.
All stirred not in solitude, but in the shared, messy beauty of being with others.
This week, we begin with the first: the names.
🪷The Question That Returned
I’ve been asked before why I chose these weird names - Daesys, Kronao, Areteiwa ?…
Why not something easier to remember? More familiar?
Truth is there’s no marketing logic behind them. No linguistic formula.
But there was intent. I chose them carefully.
Each name carries a subtle resonance - part Stoic, part Taoist - and speaks to the deep nature of the Pillar it holds.
Not in plain words, but in tone, texture, and rhythm.
Because “balance” isn’t the same as Zenetheia. And “virtue” doesn’t carry what Areteiwa carries.
These names aren’t there to decorate. They’re here to anchor.
They’re not meant to fit neatly into your mind.
They were somehow thought to slow it down.
To shift the space just enough for something to stir and stay in the background.
🌿 The Nature of the Names
In the Scroll’s Author’s Note, I admitted it: I forget more than often most practices myself.
Not because they don’t matter but because they’re not tricks to memorize.
They’re seeds.
And seeds don’t work by recall. They work by return.
The same goes for the Pillar names: their exact wordings might fade. You’ll forget them, stumble on them, misspell them several times.
Then one day, while speaking with someone or sitting alone, a name will resurface.
Not because you studied through a book but because your steps carved the rhythm.
Kronao. Daesys. Wuthea…
No static concepts, shared language.
Names that only settle in as you walk them.
Until they’re no longer names but genuine companions.
🌀 The Seed, Not the Shortcut
Words like “Balance,” “Presence,” or “Virtue” feel familiar indeed.
And that might be the danger.
They let our brain shortcut into thinking “I know this already.”
The Pillar names were made to interrupt that reflex, to break the automatic path and ask for presence.
Just like in martial arts, where a form carries power not just in its movement, but in the name that holds it.
You don’t need to remember the names perfectly.
You need to make them yours.
Rename, reshape, translate when needed.
Because what matters isn’t repeating the Scroll.
It’s finding, shaping and practicing your own Staoicism - let the language emerges from the living.
🌗 What Friction Leaves Behind
Next week, we’ll step into the second thread that emerged during this gathering.
A question about structure, and whether the order of things was really thought through.
But for now, I leave you with this:
When was the last time something you didn’t understand… stayed with you anyway?
I would love to hear more from you.
Share it in the blog comments, contact me on your favorite platform, or send a quiet note by email.
And for those who just stumbled upon these lines, the Scroll is still waiting for you, free and ready to welcome your first glances.
The link is just below.
See you next week,
